Two doctors after completing internship in Ndanda start working in Nyangao Hospital

On 25th of this month took place traditional celebration of St. Walburga Day the Patroness of the Hospital. This year it was done on extraordinary scale. A day before on Friday afternoon were organized several sport competitions on stadium near the hospital finalized by football match between Hospital and BodaBoda drivers teams. Large number of participants and spectators confirmed great interest and satisfaction of such event.
On 25th there was a holly mass in Hospital Chappel, parade through the wards and meeting of hospital staff with presence of honorable guests with a Bishop B. Ngonyani and DMO from Lindi. Several workers were awarded for good work performance. Celebration was ended in good atmosphere by refreshment.

16 accountants of the Diocese of Lindi Health facilities took part in a workshop on the BANANA Accounting System from End of April at Nyangao Hospital
Due to a lightening stroke the Hospital’s central water pump was destroyed in April. With a tank lorry the Hospital provided clean water to the staff during the one week down time.

Dr. Ecki Kolbitz, German Gynaecologist, was supporting Nyangao Hospital's maternity department 6th of June to 17th of July.
Doctor Edwin Guerino Chawala from Liwale District Hospital started his 2 month practice in Surgical Department
Medical student Anna Bernrreiter from Germany arrived for one month clinical elective.

Doctor Daniela Kietzman anesthetist didn't forget about our hospital and arrived as every year to support Nyangao Hospital anesthetic department. She had also interesting presentation on Neonatal Resuscitation
Logistic Management Workshop took place in 16 - 18 October with participants from Nyangao, Mnero and Kipatimu Hospitals, Mtua Health Centre, St. Mary's Dispensary Mtwara and Tunduru Dispensary.
Workshop on "Surgery In Low Resource Settings With Special Emphasis On Trauma" took place on 26 - 27 October. There participate doctors from Hospitals Mtwara, Lindi, Ndanda, Nyangao, Ruangwa, Kilwa Kipatimu, Kilwa Kinyonga, Tandahimba, Mangaka, Nachingwea, Newala, Mnero, Liwale and from Health Centres Kitomanga and Rondo.
Dr. Eirini Bikou, Pediatrician from Greece currently working in UK started work in Nyangao Hospital. She is employed by VSO and her stay with us will be 3 months.

Andreas Fabricius Laboratory Specialist from Germany visited Nyangao Hospital Laboratory for two weeks and created report sharing with various medical authorities and hospital staff.
In last days of the year Ms. Ewelina Lubieniecka Consul of Embassy of Poland visited hospital and review effects of Polish Aid Project for 2017.
The main goal of that project was support for rebuilding old, not used TB ward transforming it for 8 residential apartments for hospital staff and guests called Sr. Lioba apartments.
On 31 of January was held general staff meeting with administration of the hospital on which were presented and discussed important current issues.
In February 2018 the Regional Commissioner of Lindi Region, Hon. RC Godfrey Zambi (picture centre), visited Nyangao Hospital and was informed by MO i/c Dr. Bertram Makotha (left) on the challenges of our hospital.
With the support of Sr. Raphaela’s home parish in Germany Nyangao Hospital could refurbish its dental clinic during the first quarter of 2018 and purchase a brand new dental chair. Now the dentists Dr. Max Makotha, Dr. Felix Mkami (picture) and Medical Attendant Erick Hiyara can treat patients in a modern environment. SES-Expert Dr. Adrian Balbi initiated the upgrade of the dental clinic.
On 11th a meeting was held concerning Project of Polish Medical Mission (PMM) ”Improvement of the quality of surgical treatment and mother and child care in the regions of Lindi and Mtwara, Tanzania”. Participants were Sr. Raphaela Haendler, president of the board PMM Ms. Ewa Piekarska and representatives of Hospital and Diocese.
A couple from Germany who was working in Nyangao Hospital 25 years ago Dr. Bruno and his wife Ruth Raczeck Physiotherapeutist visited us and work with us three weeks.
The German ARTEMED Foundation will support Nyangao Hospital and Lindi Diocese in the development of health facilities and health care. After the first visitor’s group came in December 2017 now in June 2018 the second visitor’s group had comprehensive discussions with the hospital management and the responsible persons of the Diocese to pave way for a future cooperation. ARTEMED Foundation will engage in the restructuring of the Operation Theatre Block as well as in the training program for medical personal of Nyangao Hospital.

The fire brigade of Sr. Raphaela’s home town in Germany donated the still fine functioning ambulance to Nyangao Hospital and the Missionary OSB Sisters covered the sea transport to Dar es Salaam on to Nyangao.
On the day of arrival 19th June 2018 the Hospital Governing Board had its quarterly meeting and welcomed the new ambulance.

Construction of new building for Minor Operation Theatre and three doctor's examination rooms started thanks to support of Polish Medical Mission (Polish Aid) and German Artemed Foundation.
The second seminar for Nurse Midwifes from Nyangao and neighbor health facilities were conducted as a part of Polish Medical Mission Project for 2018.

The new important investment in the hospital is a big stabilizer for hospital electrical system fixed by technician from Dar es Salaam Mr. Geofrey Temihango with help of our technician Mr. Deo Millanzi.

Thanks to financial support from Polish Medical Mission and dedicated work of hospital administration, technical team and contractors rebuilding of old operation tract was completed.
